Static IP for server

First of all I apologize if I'm not in the right forum. Just let me know and I will move it elsewere.

I need to be able to access files on my server from any location, via the Internet.

My intent is to purchase a SnapAlliance 2200 and put it behind a simple Router (Netgear FVS318) on my LAN.
I will start leasing a static IP address from my cable company (which I assume will be assigned to the Router)
My question is: will I need a second static IP address for the SnapAppliance or will I be able to route the ftp request to the server with that single IP address.

My advice would be to configure port forwarding for Port 21 (FTP) to the SnapAlliance....

Are you currently using NAT on the Netgear?

An this point I'm waiting on the equipment to come in.
But Yes my intent is to use NAT on the router

In that case I see no need as to why you would require a second static IP.....Set port forwarding on your router for FTP to point at the interal snapalliance....

That way, when you access your network from outside, all port 21 packets will be directed to the internal Snapalliance.

THanks for the link. In the meantime I decided to order different.
I ordered a IOMEGA NAS appliance. But the basis is the same.
I should be able to do that in the same way.
