I have a huge problem and nowhere to find an answer. My isp assigned me an ip.Tried to configure my router with static ip or ppp0e or anything else I could think about. If I put my rj45 on the wan port it can be configured on 192.168.0.1 (using a Dlink router)but cannot access internet. In order to have internet I have to configure a local area network connectionassign the ip and dns from isp and put the rj45 on an another port. So with everything I don t even see my local network! I have one network card per pc (2), one hi speed modem, one router, lots of cable if needed. Please help!!!!!!

PS:I did try everything I could think of...:(

Isibee,

What is the model of your modem ? All the modems that I've seen from Sympatico uses straight-through cables...

Ok now I can go on the internet through my router and used a cross over cable from my Paradyne modem to my Dlink router. I can also see my network finally!
The only thing now is that my son on his computer cannot have access to the internet but can ping the router, my pc and a web page but not access it.
What else can I do I'm so close......

thanks,

Disable his firewall.

Set the TCP/IP properties to "Obtain an IP address automaticly." Set the Advanced properties DNS sheet to "Enable Netbios over TCP/IP."

Make sure the DHCP server on the router is enabled.

My son can ping the address like 66.??.??.??
He cannot see it on the browser.

Have him type in the IP 67.65.175.33 in his browser and see if he gets the page. If he does, you have a DNS issue, if not... We'll have some fun cut out for us....

Check the configs in your router. A lot of the routers have a spot where you can configure denied access to the Web for certain hosts. Sounds like this may have been configured somehow....

I never configured it for that and how come my pc can access internet without problems. If I need to configure there is no explanation as to how I should do it in the manual or on the web site. I have a Dlink.
