I'm trying to assign an IP address to a new server but it doesn't appear to be working. All of our workstations use DHCP to get their IP Address, and if I set this server to use DHCP, it can connect to the domain fine. If I try to give it static IP address however, I can't connect to the domain, or ping any other server/workstation. The static IP address) I try to give it is 100% identical (with the exception of the last digit of course) to the other servers that are all working fine. DNS settings are also identical. The IP address' for the servers are different to those used in DHCP for the workstations, and under the scope for the servers there are no reserved address'

Can someone please tell me I'm missing something simple.

perhaps an error in the subnet mask? or default gateway?

is this a windows box? if so, enter the command ipconfig /all in the console in a working server and the one that isn't working, then post back the results here.

Thanks for the reply.
It is indeed a Windows server (2003). The subnet mask and default gateway are both correct - exactly the same as the other servers that work.

I think we'd need more information about your network setup to answer your question.

Do workstations/other servers normally respond to pings? Do they run firewall software? Do they only respond to pings from domain members? Are you pinging by IP address or computer name? Can you ping localhost?

Does the domain controller only accept requests from members allocated IP by DHCP? Is the faulty server listed in the AD?

Could you simply use a reserved DHCP address, instead of a static address?

Stupid mistake on my part.....it was patched into a switch for DHCP clients only, duh!
