Static hiss after dail up + connection

Win98 2nd edition

I dail-up and connect to my ISP and can surf the web fine but there is a constant hiss of static as if my dail-up is still in the process of connecting. This lasts the entire time I am connected.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

In the extra settings box of advanced modem properties, put M1L0
