I am new to troubleshooting successions and I recently ran a stat on a TN in LD 32. The TN came back IDLE UNREGISTERED which I have never seen before (the unregistered part). What exactly does this mean, if this TN is unregistered does this mean it was registered before and became unregistered ? How does this happen ?? Let me know.

sounds like you have some ip phones in you're phone system

Does this mean I just need to re-register them ? If so, how would I do this ??

do you have any phones that are out of service

I am remote support, my customer called in complaining that the phone was not working. I stat the TN it comes back IDLE UNREGISTERED that is why I want to know what I need to do next.

She has an IP phone installed. What's the status on the display of the users phone...

Unfortunately, I ended up sending this ticket out to the field operations team. However, I would like to know how to help my customer in the future. So this unregistered means it is an IP phone ? What troubleshooting steps would I need to take, to get it back up and running. I take it I need to ask what the display status is. From there what else can I do proctively and reactively ?? How would I get the phone back online ?

might try a disu and enlu against the tn in load 32, but with the phone not being reg. chance are it was a hardware problem. not for remote support. most of the field techs get to here the cust have a fit about the time it took us to get there. after remote tried to fix it for a few hours before sending it on to dispatch.. had one not to long ago where a t was down for 5 hours before i got a page.. cust was hot. took 10 minutes to get it back up, just reseated the card.. the delay, killed cust service...

Have VoIP Nortel training course instead.........

Yes training being necessary is given. However, I was looking for some helpful feedback for the present moment.

Thanks,

Ok. So can anyone tell me how to troubleshoot this ? Or you want me to just go take the course and quit asking ??

stat 40 0 0 1
> idle unregistered

Normally if it was not idle, I was dslu and enlu but it is idle and I have never seen the unregistered comeback before. I statted the card and it was idle as well. I just don't know what the unregistered means ?? I assume it is bad because they called in a trouble ticket for it saying the phone was not working.

Get er dun !!

What I've run into with the couple of IP sets that we have installed is that the phone will show up as UNREGISTERED if the phone set itself is not connecting to the network for some reason. I'm not sure there is much you can do remotely. I've either had to plug the phone into the network (user knocked it out somehow) or had to reboot the phone.

post the IP print out because 40 0 0 1 isn´t the virtual loop for IP phones. You can see the physical TN. If you can obtain the status for IP phonem you need the virtual TN, then you can load ld 32 and IDU TN (virtual) for check physical layer between IP phone and the Succession Media card or Signaling Server.
