PROBLEM: System is freezing up on boot-up. It will get to the following area and freeze: “Alcor Micro Au9472 USB, Self-powered hub setup utility Ver 1.07-hpd.”

Trouble Shooting Problem:
1. I restarted system in safe mode and it booted up with no problem.
2. I then started the “Confirm System on startup.” When I selected NO for the 2nd step, “Process your start-up device drivers (config.sys)” and YES for all other steps, the system will boot up normally.

How can I resolve the issue and have my system boot up normally again?

If you are running win98 or 98se I dont understand why you are using config.sys. windows does its own memory and resource management and therefore should not be loading any programs from autoexec.bat or config.sys. Loading environments are ok. Might I suggest you rename your autoexec.bat and config.sys files and reboot, then see what happens then.
If it still fails when you boot you can disable all the startup programs in the startup tab of the msconfig file. If it works ok then edit your msconfig again by inserting half of the programs that you disabled before. Keep doing this until you have tracked down the offending program.
Hope this is of some help.

I renamed the files and then received a FAT 32 Blue Screen error. Where do I edit the startup programs in the startup tab of the msconfig file.

Boot up in safe mode.Rename your config.sys and autoexec.bat
back. Restart again in safe mode.Go to start, programs, accessories, system tools, system information, tools, system configuration utility, config.sys and uncheck the problem
line. Click apply, and restart normally.
