went to turn my PC on the other day. the green power light came on, the red HDD light blinked and then went off and the computer does nothing - ie. the fan doesn't start, the hard drives don't spin and worst of all the computer doesn't beep....

have taken out the graphics card, the RAM and the HDD... ie. the only things that I thought could be the problem but still no luck.

any ideas ?

So absolutley nothing powers up?

Potentially the PSU if that is the case

A dead device such as a modem or network card will cause these same symptoms as well. Try removing any add-on cards such as these and see if it powers on.

To be honest my experience with these exact symptoms is pretty low...i've only came accross it once.

I replaced the PSU on the machine in question, and that did the trick.

As mainegeek suggested, try taking out the other cards....say you take out RAM, HDD, NIC, Graphics, Modem...and indeed extra card and disconnect other devices such as CD ROM drive etc....see if it will then come on and stay on (power wise only of course!)

if after you have exhausted these possibilities you still have no life....I would lean towards getting a replacement PSU.
