I can not seem to be able to start vm lite as a system service like we do with voicemail pro. Which is ok, i can just add it to the startup programs, however i am concerned that the customer can just close the window. How can i disable his ability to close voicemail lite that is running on his computer?

Is it possible to minimize VM Lite to the tray? I've never run VM Lite so I'm not sure if you can.

neither have we... we've always sold vm pro, but this customer just did not want it =/.... I have not figured out a awy to minimize to system tray either.

ok...how plausible is it to just ctrl-alt-delete and lock the workstation so they can't touch it?

There are many sharewares and freewares that allow you to run any program as a service, a query in Google for "Run as a service" will find them. Even Microsoft has one in its Windows 2003 Resource Toolkit, search MS site and download it.

I have done it, using the MS svrany tools but you will loose the ability to do voicemail to email or email notification.

Hi All,

I have an application that will monitor the Voicemail Lite and reopen and rerun it if someone tries to close it down. You can then put a shortcut to VMLite into the startup and as soon as VMLite opens this app will take over and run the VMLite. You can go even further and use Powertoys from Microsoft to automatically log the pc in as a specific user, if as part of a domain or as a stand alone with the admin username and password. If you are interested then contact me via email and i can send you the zip file.

Hope this Helps

Why not use the srvany tool from microsoft? I have vmlite running as a service without any problems - works a treat!
And the email notification works fine.

i have tried it once butcould not get it working with svrany

I have used a "Run As Service" program called FireDaemon that has given me ZERO problems. It is very flexible. You can setup dependencies, auto restart and startup delays if you need them. I highly recommend it. the cost is arounf $35.00 US

VMLITE does not run as a service.

Just because you can do it, does not justify doing so. This is not a scenario where you are looking to take advatage, it is just that you can not be expected to make a system bullet proof to those that have access, but no common sense. Warning them goes beyond your obligation when they buy a bottom of the line VM which is not supported when running as a service.

If they do it, it is billable to go out, and turn it back on.
