Hi all

We have AD (windows 2003 server), and we want to start the messenger service on all the domain computers (windows xp(.
First I tried to change the startup mode to automatic from the computer configuration in the policy and apply a script that start the service at logon.
The problem is nothing changed when we apply that policy, the service is still disabled! Is this because the domain users have no permission to change the service status at log on? And if so how can we start the service on all the computers?

Thanks

The GPO should be for the machine, not the user. Make sure it's targeting the machines. Typically I just set the GPO to set the service to automatic. I don't follow that up with anything else, since once the service is set to automatic, it will start everytime the computer boots after that. No need to manually start it in a script.

Hi
what do you mean "The GPO should be for the machine" I changed it from computer configuration not from user configuration in the policy

Yes, but make sure the GPO is assigned to an OU for computers, not users.

no it didn't work should I change the security ?

No. If you run a modelling results against that machine from within GPMC, does it show the GPO hitting that machine?
