I am trying to get NTP to work on a Linux server. I think that I have everything installed and configured properly. when I try to run just about any command I get the error "connection refused". The troubleshooting guide at the NTP site says that this error occurs because XNTPD is not running. This may sound stupid, but how do I make it run?!!?!?!? I can find nothing on the NTP site about making the program go. I cant find any help on this anywhere, hopefully someone here can help. I really dont know anything about Linux either so that makes it even more difficult. Any help at all would be appreciated.

Thanks for the quick response. I am using Redhat but I dont have a /sbin/service folder. Someone else told me to use /etc/rc.d/init.d/ntpd start. I do have all of those folders and ran the command. I didnt get an error but nothing seemed to happen. When I run "peers" or "assoc" commands I still get the error "connection refused".
The 'service' command is essentially the same thing as '/etc/rc.d/init.d/servicename'
Are you sure the port is open? Try:
'telnet servername 123'
And see if you can get a connection, if not then the firewall is blocking it. Bruce Garlock
