I have reset the admin password for a startalk. Now when I log into the system and put the new password, the system comes back with "NOT ALLOWED" and exits from the system.

Any ideas?

John

What type of phone are you trying to log in with? It will not let you with a 7208.

I am using a 7310 to try and log in.

unless you have this box assigned to an ext. make sure the prompt says log not pass if it says pass press other.
Hope this helps.

It does say "Log: ".. So I don't know. I am thinking that I cannot use this Startalk with this Norstar.

John

Was the Startalk configured on this system? It may be configured for a different DN length. Try logging in with 120000, 1020000, or 10020000 and see if you can get in. Then reset the Startalk and reconfigure.

If it is a password issue wouldn't the screen display 'invalid password'? Are the ports idle in maintenance?

I think it has something to do with the type of phone. Although it is a 7310 it's not recognizing it. It is a DR5 Norstar, so it's pretty old. Have you seen anything that would REQUIRE it to be a 7324?

John

I have a DR5 and I can program from a 7310 or a 7324. how many digits does your star talk use 2, 3, or 4? and can anyone else log into their guest mailboxes?

They use 2 extensions. I can log into the mailboxes, I just can't log into the admin part. I have reset the password to the default 120000 but when I log in I get "NOT ALLOWED". Strange.

John

I think you get that error when someone else is logged into programming

try and reboot startalk and refresh startalk voice ports with 7310 sets then make sure the sets are programmed correctly its been awhile and we pretty much refuse to work on anything that been discountiued for this long but the refresh cleared some issues.. POWER DOWN VM ..TO REFRESH JUST PLUG 7310 INTO THE RJ11 FOR VOICE MAIL AND LET IT COME UP COMPLETLY AND CHECK PROGRAMMING FOR EACH VOICE PORT"JUST HARDWARE DN NOT SOFTWARE DN" THEN PLUG BACK INTO VM AND POWER UP. NOT YELLING.. GOOD LUCK

Alright, this too did not work.

Anyone want to buy a DR5 6X12? haha....

This is driving me crazy.

John

I know this is probably a silly question on my part, but did you use the feature 985 to reset the system coordinator password, and if so, have you tried to reset it again?

I reread the posts above and see that it looks like more of an access problem instead of a password problem. Do you have Norstar remote utilites, you might be able to get in that way.

OK. I just called a buddy of mine that has run into this on a star talk version 1.95. He said it sounds like your startalk has lost its programming. Try this
Power down.
power up and let set for 5-10 min.
use feature code 903 first (this will display system feature codes)
press OK
log on with feature 983
when prompted for pass type in 266344 (config)
then you can configure your voice mail.

I have never run into this particular problem, so I havn't tried this before, and don't know if this will work, but my friend has been around the block a couple of times. You said your other boxes were working, so I don't know if this will work or not as he said this was a fix for lost programming. I don't want you to lose anything, so ask if anyone else have tried this method before you use it. either way good luck.

Yeah...the programming is still there, but I will try this to see if I can reset the thing. I have tried to reset the password, and can do so successfully, but every time I try to get into the system with the 7310, it just says "NOT ALLOWED..NOT ALLOWED..NOT ALLOWED..NOT ALLOWED..NOT ALLOWED..NOT ALLOWED..NOT ALLOWED.."

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH....CAN YOU TELL I'M GETTING FRUSTRATED?

Thanks, will try Feature 903.

John

I just experienced this last week. I got the same message NOT ALLOWED. I had to open the flash talk and short the memory. By doing this it manually resets the voicemail. If you try resetting the password in software it will not work. I tried for two weeks before I gave up and opened the system and shorted the memory.

WARNING WARNING WARNING

Don't EVER SHORT the memory capacitor. Use a resistor accross its terminals. Failure to do so could result in the destruction of the Voice Mail.

TRY EVERY OTHER SOLUTION FIRST!!!!!

It would be a better idea all round to send the unit to an authorized dealer and have them fix it. Costs a lot less than replacing a voice mail.
