is there an easy way to start and stop a service on a remote server from a workstation [sig][/sig]

Use the Server Manager tool from the resource kit. Hightlight the server then click Computer>Services

If everything seems to be going well: you don't have enough information.......

If you don't mind a bit of a dirty way. . .

Run the scheduler service (with an local admin capable account)

make a batch file that does a "net stop service" or "net start service"

schedule the batch file for 1 minute from "now"

wait one minute. (that's the hardest part!)

Hope this helps!

NETSVC in the server resource kit works just fine for this. I use this to perform stop/start functions over slow WAN links for remote customers when needed.
