Hi all,

Does anyone know how to start a webserver[tomcat] on port 443 as a non root user? I'm running it on solaris 9 machine.

Thanks!!

Hello,

I need the same answer... Please let me know if you find
anything out... I will do the same...

Thanks,
Frank

Hi,

In order to bind to port below 1024 you need root user. Since you want non root user to bind to port 443 why not install "sudo".

Thanks dbase77, but can you elaborate a little bit? We have
sudo, but how can you run it as non-root and have the port bind as root? Can we do something with the permissions?

Thanks!

Thanks dbase77, i was hoping to look for a way that doesn't need to become root or sudo. I though there might be some sort https deamon config that i can change that allow that. So far, i haven't found anything on it.

Hi fdoran, you would need to modify your sudo config file so who ever have access to sudo be able to run the web server as non root but with root previledges.
