Hello All:

I have recently added a second Domain Controller. After successfully adding the 2nd server, I looked in DNS to make sure all was well.

The first thing I noticed was that the SOA on the 2nd DC was not the PDC, but rather the 2nd DC. But on the PDC the SOA remains the PDC.

Is this normal??? I can't find any articles about this.

I suppose it makes sense to be that way, but I am just not sure about it.

Please advise.

Glenn

If this is an Active Directory Integrated zone, each DNS server is the SOA for that zone. With AD Integrated zones each DNS has a writable copy of the zone, which means each DNS server has to be the SOA for the zone.

If this is not and AD Integrated zone, something could be wrong.

Thanks for the reply. It is an AD integrated zone. So everything must be fine.
