Hello. I've searched the forum for a similar situation and I found one that looks exactly the same ( ) and the person who posted got it solved by getting is hijackthis.log analized, has you can see at the link above.

I thought I might give it a try as well, since the problem seems to be the same. Here is my hijackthis log:

Try Safe Mode, if the situation is better try eliminating other possible causes.

Bcastner, thank you very much. Spyware Doctor was, in fact, the problem.

Cheers!

I'm sorry to bring this up again. But when I uninstalled Spyware Doctor, the problem seemed to be solved. However, some days passed and the start menu is again very slow.

Any other thoughts?

Thank you.

Some general things to try after the suggestions in my earlier post.

See if System Restore will get you back to a restore point before your problem with Explorer.

Try Safe Mode (Do you have this problem in Safe Mode?).

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

HOW TO: Verify Unsigned Device Drivers in Windows XP

If they don't work you could try repairing windows by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.
