Operating sys Vista Home Edition 64bit with updated Bios, Windows and HP, AVG security, just did a factory restore, only monitor, mouse, keyboard and internet modem connected, problem: will not wake up after stand by/ sleep mode, have to depower and restart, any suggestions?
Thx...Nick

Guys > I have really messed it up this time:
Was trying to test different settings for the display on the Advance settings in Setup to check if that would fix the problem and I accidently highlighted the onboard display not realizing that I have none, now I cannot access the display cause it only works with the PCI card, any suggestion, thx.

If you shut it down and go into the BIOS, you should be able to select the primary video card. It's usually something like Integrated / PCI or AGP (for older models)/ PCI-E

The problem is that presently I have no access to the display for making any changes, ie to select the PCI/PCI-E

boot it up without the video card in it, than put the video card back in, it should detect it again and give you video once more. You could also clear the bios with the jumper on the mother board as per the instructions in the manual.

OK, I got the video back again, thx
Nick

Just a thought, could it be a Power Supply problem which may not be supplying enough power to the HD after the Sleep mode?

I asked that earlier - you never got back until now. I WOULD try a different one if you have it, but I wouldn't buy one just for testing. Maybe borrow one from another computer.

You're reaching the point of dumping the beast though. If this time were money, you'd have a $1000 computer.

Yep it would be nice to own a $1000 computer;
haven't been able to get hold of a pwr pack as yet but am on the lookout.

Tried a new power pack, but with no satisfying results,
Could it be a motherboard issue, cause since I have already
done a system restore on a replaced HD I am doubting that
it can be a software issue, but then again I could be wrong.

What model is your monitor?

From the sound of things, it appears you have a VGA cable running from the monitor to the DVI port on the video card using a DVI-to-VGA adapter. That configuration should be fine in terms of waking up the monitor, so perhaps it's something else.

cdogg, thx, The monitor I am using is Mitsubishi, DiamondPoint V91LCD; and the hook up is exactly the way you have mentioned above. I also had the memory checked out, just in case, as I am running out of options and it also is fine.
