Hi again!

Here comes my second problem:

I have 180 stale partitions on a "hdisk" that
is a logical volume of an external storage unit (FastT).

What has been done:

1. Add 100GB drive (FastT) to AIX: hdisk2
2. Create VG "fastt01" with 3 logical volumes, filled 51GB.
3. Add 60GB drive (FastT) to AIX: hdisk3
4. mirrorvg '-S' fastt01 hdisk2 hdisk3

The synchronizing stopped 180 partitions before the end.

When I try to start synchronize the following errors occur:

AIX100:/vct/oracle#syncvg -p hdisk3
0516-068 lresyncpv: Unable to completely resynchronize volume. Run
diagnostics if neccessary.
0516-936 /usr/sbin/syncvg: Unable to synchronize physical volume hdisk3.

or:

AIX100:/vct/oracle#syncvg -v fastt01
0516-934 /usr/sbin/syncvg: Unable to synchronize logical volume prd_oradta.
0516-934 /usr/sbin/syncvg: Unable to synchronize logical volume vct_oradta.
0516-932 /usr/sbin/syncvg: Unable to synchronize volume group fastt01.

Why will the synchronize not work? Perhaps it has something to do with my other problem (loss of logical volume control block)?!?

regards

hi ,

Have you just tried mirroring the individual logical volumes
using mklvcopy ?
your previous thread on LVCB could have something to do with it , to prove this try creating a dummy logical volume
in the volume group fastt01 and using mklvcopy mirror the logical volume. if that works then you know theres a problem with your LV and related to LVCB.

I think, the solution has been found: fsck on 2 of the
3 filesystems throws many errors.

We will delete the filesystems and the lv, create them all new and hope, that the restore from tape will work.

This procedure will solve both threads.

thanx for your effort

What is the PP size on this VG ? Are you sure you are not running out of room on the smaller disk ?

[TT]

PP size is identical 64MB on both drives.

Number of used PPs on 100GB: 882 (56448 Megabytes)
Number of free PPs in 60GB: 959 (61376 megabytes)

Should fit.

RudiVVC ,

I did not undertand why you are using AIX mirroring on a FastT . just create your luns with raid 1 or raid (1+ 0 )
level.

Hi baanman!

Simple answer: We tried to clone a complete AIX-System.

First we installed the new system from the mksysb of
another machine.

Changed system name and IP-address.. worked very fine.

Now we try to clone the complete FastT-objects (Oracle including databases):

- create new drive on FastT, add it to volume group
of old machine.
- create mirror.
- splitvg
- Now change mapping of the drive to the new machine.
- cfgmgr on new machine
- importvg on new machine

Worked very well!

BUT: We catched the wrong hdisk on the old machine while splitvg.

I think the efforts made to switch the harddisks resulted
in corrupted filesystems.

By the way:
Of course we mirror RAID-Drives over two FastT within our RAC-cluster: no single point of failure!
Security near the limits of paranoia. :))
