I am still running Win98. Whatever version of IE that came with Win98 SE use to cause an illegal operation and shut down on rare occasions. If I remember correctly it was associated with mshtml.dll . I upgraded to IE6 hoping that it would cure the problem, but it has only compounded it. Now I am getting frequent stack faults and occasionally some problem associated with the mshtml.dll . Those error reports are really getting on my nerves. I thought perhaps my system was having problems with IE and downloaded Netscape. I haven't seen it, but I am told it shuts down too. To top it off, the upgrade to IE6 has screwed with windows explorer. My major problem with it is that the tree is no longer visable. I can live with the other changes. Any advice that would help me correct these problems would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Tim

What do these errors say exactly and when do you get them?

---------

The left pane in Explorer is empty? If so do this. Copy and paste what's below in bold into a Notepad file then save it as ExplorerFix.reg or whatever name you want but give it a .reg extension. Then find the file and doubleclick on it and merge it. Then restart the computer and see if it's fixed. Note: This file is not for use for those who use Internet Explorer 5.5. Or give me an email address and i'll email you the reg file that should fix it.

See if any of these articles helps with the mshtml.dll error:

If you have Gator installed, it or it's spyware might be to blame. If you do use it and like it then I would suggest getting rid of it and it's spyware and using Roboform instead which has no spyware and is also free. They also have a Gator converter to convert all your gator data to Roboform.

Then get and run Ad-aware (free) to remove any spyware left after removing Gator. In fact run Ad-aware anyway and see if you have any other spyware that might be to blame for the error. Spyware is well known to be the cause of errors while using internet explorer.

I'll have to wait for IE to give me another error message to get more details. I was told last night it gave an error associated with kernal32.dll . I am not running Gator, Roboform or Ad-aware. Although I have considered using Ad-aware. I am using Zone Alarm firewall, but I think I was getting the errors before I installed it.

I will check your link and try the the fix. Then, check back here. Thanks.

I did try to use Netscape today. I opened it twice and it shut down with errors. It never even got as far as getting connected to the internet. Here are the errors:

A funny thing happened on the way to search another forum for another system problem. I got a stack fault. This isn't the common one I usually see. Here are the details:

Thanks Kento. My tree is back in windows explorer.

The information in the link you gave me points to the fact that I am using the wrong video driver. The irritating part of that is I have the CD with the manufacturer's drivers on it, but windows seemed to think that its drivers were the best.

Here are a couple of errors from IE6 that occurred, but I hadn't seen before:

I can hardly even post here. IE6 keeps shutting down.

I tried installing the latest version of my video driver but I still got the mshtml.dll error. I haven't seen the error since I changed the setting to 256 colors. I am going to try installing the drivers from the manufacturer's CD, because I never use to get the error with them.

If this helps me get some more advice, here are some more errors:
