I'm completely new to SQL Server Reporting Services but want to set up a test environment to try it out.

I have installed Visual Studio 2005 professional on a workstation running XP Professional SP2. I thought that SSRS 2005 was now included (rather than being an add in) but there is no Business Intelligence Development Studio appearing under project types.

I have installed IIS on the workstation but this did not help. Am I missing something really obvious here?

Any help would be much appreciated as I've been searching Microsoft's support site all afternoon.

SSRS is part of the SQL Server install....not Visual Studio. When installing SQL Server (and even SQL Server Express now), you have the option of including SSRS.

I am not sure if SSRS is installed automatically if you select to have Visual Studio install the SQL Server for you...I have always installed SQL Server myself before installing Visual Studio.

The Visual Studio 2005 set up includes an install of SQL Server Express which should include SSRS. I would have expected to see some options for this on the install but there were none. I therefore suspect something is preventing the install of reporting services.
If no one has any other ideas I'll go for an install of SQL Server first.

Just in case anyone else comes across this - have solved the problem!
Reporting Services is included in the SQL Server Express Toolkit which has to be downloaded separately. I feel a bit stupid but now have Business Intelligence Projects as a project type and am ready to go.
