I'm working on a database that uses SQL, and there used to be an icon on the remote desktop to get into SSMS. Without it, of course, I can't get into the tables, etc.

I started a thread in the Access forum and found that apparently SSMS had been uninstalled. I reinstalled it, and it was suggested that I'd find the file I need for the icon at "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\Binn\VSShell\Common7\IDE\SqlWb.exe"

After installation, I have all of the directories and subdirectories, but the file SqlWb.exe is nowhere to be found, so I still can't get into the back end.

Does anyone know what I need to do to get SSMS operational again?

On the remove desktop, are you able to go to Search button (in Windows) or All Programs? If you can go to "Search", can you type 'SQL Server Management Studio'? If it was properly installed, it should open when you typed that.

Thanks. I won't be back on the job for a week or so, but I'll try it when I'm back at it and I'll let you know.

I installed SSMS from the Microsoft website, and the installation went through fine, so I have no reason to assume it's not properly installed, but I was told (and see) that it's installed on the C: drive and not on the server. If that's the case, why would I find it on the server?

Are you suggesting that I should install it on the server then? That makes sense to me.

And if I do, which file will be the one I need to open the SSMS? What's the path to it?

I think you may need to install SSMS on the server.

The location for ssms.exe is C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Tools\Binn\VSShell\Common7\IDE

on my computer.

Thanks. I'll look at it as soon as I'm back on the job and will let you know.

I appreciate all your help.

OK,I'm back at it, and installed SSMS on the P: drive. What is the correct path to the application file that runs it?

I'm sorry I didn't respond yesterday. I got the problem solved. All I had to do was open Remote Desktop, and click Start>Run, then type in SSME. Popped right open!

As long as I can get at it I don't care about the icon, but I'll search out the file later when I have a little time.

I appreciate all your responses.
