SSI not working in Apache 2.2.1.5 for Windows

I'm running a new-used server with Windows 2000 Pro, Apache 2.2.1.5 and ActiveState PERL 5.10. I have a web site which displays on one page the "last modified" date of a text file. This is important to the customer. It worked perfectly on the old server, which ran Windows 200 Pro, Apache 1.3.3.1 and ActiveState PERL 5.6.1. With the new server, the area where the date is displayed is blank. Otherwise the page loads correctly.

This function is accomplished by using SSI and a CGI script that is called within the .SHTML page that displays the result. The line of code for the script is:

<!--#exec cgi="/cgi-bin/lastmodified.cgi" -->

The CGI file is:

#!D:/PERL_510/bin/perl.exe

# Script name:
# @1 Last Modified Date and Time

# Purpose:
# This Perl script checks the "Last Modified" date and time
# of a file.

# Uses:
# Call the display via SSI using the tag below:
# <!--#include virtual="yourfolder1/yourfolder2/lastmodified.cgi" -->

# License Notice:

# you keep this license notice intact.

use POSIX 'strftime';
my $time = (stat $filename)[9];
print "Content-type: text/html\n\n";
#print "<font face=\"verdana\" size=\"2\"><b>LATEST UPDATE:</b>";
print "\n";
print strftime '&nbsp%m.%d.%y', localtime $time;

The error from my server log is:

[Wed Mar 31 18:30:21 2010] [warn] [client xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] mod_include: Options +Includes (or IncludesNoExec) wasn't set, INCLUDES filter removed, referer:
However, my httpd.conf is configured as recommended on the Apache site.

Here is the httpd.conf, file, edited only for privacy of addresses and domains:

#
# This is the main Apache HTTP server configuration file. It contains the
# configuration directives that give the server its instructions.
# See <URL: for detailed information.
# In particular, see
# <URL:# for a discussion of each configuration directive.
#
# Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding
# what they do. They're here only as hints or reminders. If you are unsure
# consult the online docs. You have been warned.
#
# Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many
# of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the
# server will use that explicit path. If the filenames do *not* begin
# with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "logs/foo.log"
# with ServerRoot set to "D:/www" will be interpreted by the
# server as "D:/#
# NOTE: Where filenames are specified, you must use forward slashes
# instead of backslashes (e.g., "c:/apache" instead of "c:\apache").
# If a drive letter is omitted, the drive on which httpd.exe is located
# will be used by default. It is recommended that you always supply
# an explicit drive letter in absolute paths to avoid confusion.

#
# ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
# configuration, error, and log files are kept.
#
# Do not add a slash at the end of the directory path. If you point
# ServerRoot at a non-local disk, be sure to point the LockFile directive
# at a local disk. If you wish to share the same ServerRoot for multiple
# httpd daemons, you will need to change at least LockFile and PidFile.
#
ServerRoot "D:/www"

#
# Listen: Allows you to bind Apache to specific IP addresses and/or
# ports, instead of the default. See also the <VirtualHost>
# directive.
#
# Change this to Listen on specific IP addresses as shown below to
# prevent Apache from glomming onto all bound IP addresses.
#
Listen 192.168.xxx.xxx:80
#Listen 80

The ONLY variable from old server to new that is indicated by the error message is related to the Apache config. Can anyone please point out what I'm doing wrong? I know there may be more efficient methods, but it worked before and doesn't now. I don't want to revert to the older version of Apache, but it would fix the problem (and open up security holes). All help appreciated. Thanks.

Anyone?

You indicate that you are using an upgraded version of Apache with server side scripting. Are you sure that the script interpreter is configured and updated correctly? Have you tried using a different script that does some basic stuff like generate some HTML and display it?

All other scripts run fine. I have guestbook scripts that write to a file and generate emails, and they work with no errors. The error I'm getting is associated with Apache. Nothing has changed except the version of Apache. The last-modified script ran perfectly under an older version, does not run under this one. It still works on the old server.

Switched back to older version of Apache, SSI works now.

I am glad to see that you at least found a work-around. Unfortuntely you are using the older version of Apache. I really have no idea why your function isn't working. Undoubtedly there is some incompatibility. Possibly there is something left over from the old Apache that didn't port right to the new one. Sorry you weren't able to find more help.

Nothing was left over, because this was a blanked hard drive, a totally new build in a new box, from Windows on up. I would much rather use a newer version, but it's not worth the struggle and time to see why this feature doesn't work. From my conf file above, it sure looks like I did everything correctly.
