Hi,

I have 1 dead 3300 switch after firmare update from ver. 2.62 to 2.70, with (windows)serial update utility (running on W2K) and "PC AT serial serial cable" (cf. manual pin-out). Even the DOS srial update utility doesn't work. Now after POST only the 2&3 stack leds are on, that means firmware error.

The switch has no reset/config/other button.

All the others of SSII, SS III switches were fine updated with this (windows) utility and the same serial cable.

Could anyone help me reanimate this switch?

Thank you.

Hi,

Try to download the windows serial update utility from the 3com site.
You'll find it from the knowledgebase by asking questions about the 3300 - won't boot up (sorry don't have link to site for you).

Also download v2.69.

Install the utility program and load the s/w.
Hopefully you'll get the switch back and then try to load 2.70.

If this doesn't work send back to 3Com.

Hi,

But I tried only with this serial utility (Windows & DOS) form the 3Com site and also from my #com CD that came with the last switch. It didn't work.

I has the hope to find about some sort of special 3Com "inhouse" tool able to "erase" the flash memory chip, tool that is not on 3Com site for all the users. The flash chip is Am29F800B (8 Megabit (1,048,576 x 8-Bit/524,288 x 16-Bit) CMOS 5.0 Volt-only, Sector Erase Flash Memory).

Thank you for your time.

Hello

I have the same problem.
Corrupt software image = dead switch
I have tried both dos and windows versions of serial update utility and have tried to install versions 2.4,2.66,2.72 (was originally 2.4 before it died) of the agent software.

Any ideas??

Cheers
