Hi guys,

My problem is in reference to my backups failing due to SRS.MDB being a corrupt file. I can remove the SRS from the Backup strategy, but before I do this, I need to know if I need this. Aparently SRS is used for synching between AD and Exchange.

We run Exchange 2000 and have about 15 accounts. Changes are virtually never made to accounts, so faster synching between the servers would not really be a major issue.

If I remove Site Replication Service from my backup routine, and say in the event that disaster did strike. What could happen. Could not having a backup of this prevent us from restoring Exchange data? Any help greatly appreciated.

SRS is typically only used in an Exchange site where you have 5.5 and 2000 communicating with each other through an Active Directory Connector. I would go to add/remove and remove SRS service if installed. Or you could just disable that service. You don't need it if not ruuning 5.5 anywhere in the configuration.

Cheers

Yeah if you don't have any 5.5 servers in your domain you don't need SRS. I'm guessing your backup fails on that srs.mdb file because the SRS service has it open.
You don't need SRS
You don't need to backup the srs.mdb file

happy computing!

how do you remove it or disable it ??
from the Exch. 2k server or AD ??

You can disable it in the services applet on the Exchange box. Just set it to manual startup.

Cheers

if you/I disable it, is that enough to switch to Native mode ??
mine is greyed out
thanks
