Hi,

we have an vb help desk logging application at work that stores its data in an access database (it was developed by a third party).

It has 3 users accessing this application at any one time. and the database is roughly 5MB in size right now. So you wouldnt think there was much stress on the access db. Oh the access database is hosted on a server and 3 us access it from our desktop.

But lately we are getting this error nearly every day, and we have to rebuild the databaes using the access repair tool.

Database Error Message : SQLSTATE = S1000
[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Cannot open database '(unknown)'.
It may not be a database that your application recognizes, or the file may
be corrupt.

I have searched the microsoft knowledge base to find out information about this error, but I couldnt find anything.

Does anyone here know why this error is possibly occuring, and what this error means?

We contacted the vendor of the software who told us to run the repair tool....doi....no kidding :)

the application can be migrated to a sql server, but thats a bit of a overkill for 3 users.

Cheers,

Mapuche

P.S Ironic, logging an issue for an issue logging application ;)

When do you get this message? When opening the database? When in the middle of a paticular update? Etc?

Hi,

This error has occured in the following instances.

1. while using the application, eg. I open an issue and I get a pop up box stating that its a sqlstate = S100 error and that another user is updating the file (something like that) but no one is. It seems that when this has occured one of the other users computers has a locked file. We have no idea why this occurs.
2. While using the application the error appears when I access the list of issues at this point the application just dies after the error.
3. When trying to open the application the error occurs and the application won't run.

I have an inkling it has to do with the locking issue but I dont know enough about this to diagnose the problem.

Yes, repairing the database works, we back up the database every night just in case. But I would like to prevent this from occuring every day.

Thanks in advance

Mapuche.
