SQL6.5 DB --> SQL7.0 DB 1

I have a test Server that has SQL7.0 on it. It did have 6.5 on it and I did an upgrade to it, and it did all the conversions on the databases. I then uninstalled 6.5 when I was able to view all the DB's. Now, a couple of the databases got fudged up while performing some different tasks on them, and I want to get them back to what they should be.

Here is my problem. I THOUGHT I did a backup after the conversion, but did a catalog of the tape and it didn't back up anything on Drive D.

Situation: We do have SQL Server 6.5 running, but am not sure how to get the database copied over to the test SQL7.0 Server. Also, I can't find the Database Conversion program on the SQL 7.0 Server...not sure where it is. What can I do?

So I somehow EXPORT the 6.5 DB to a file or something, and then copy that file to the SQL 7.0 server, and then do an import?? If so, how do I go about doing that?

I need some help fast :)

Thanks!

Nick

Hi Nick

I have a really good Word Document about converting SQL Server Databases. If you post your email address I will mail it to you.

Bernadette

Thanks. My email address is nwulf@smbsc.com

I was also thinking, could I import the 6.5DB to Access tables, and then import it into 7.0??

I will take a look at your Word Document.

Thanks again.

Nick

I imported the tables from 6.5 DB into access, and then in return, I imported those tables in Access into 7.0 DB.

I can see the data, but don't feel what I did is what I should do. I have a bunch of 'Views' that didn't come across. Do I need to redo these all over again? Or is there a script in SQL6.5 where I can export the views, and then import those scrips into 7.0???

I still would like to take a look at that Word Document.

Thanks!

Nick

Hi nick,
Fortunately you have the 6.5 running so you can generate the scripts of all the objects and copy that text file to 7.0 server and can run that to create all your 6.5 objects.
TO do so,

Open SQL 6.5 Enterprise manager.
Select the database.
Select Generate SQL Script from the OBJECT menu option.
Select all objects and all stuff
Generate the sql script

Hope this solve your problem!

Hi Bernadette,

could you also send me the Word document, I have a similar problem converting from 6.5 to 7.0.

Regards,

Paul.
