Hi All,

I have a SQL2000 Server, running on windows 2000. About once every couple of weeks it will stop when you select 'view properties' through enterprise manager. I have tried accessing it with a Windows98 box and a Windows2000 box and have the same effect. As this causes the server to stop it is somewhat annoying to the users !! The only way I have found to fix it is to restart the server.

Any Ideas ?

Thanks,

Dan.

Does the server freeze or does it just respond extremely slow when viewing properties? Does Enterprise Manager seem like it stops responding? Please more detail.

I can't promise a fix for your issue but I can do some research in my spare time today to see what could possibly cause this.

Thanks for the reply.

The server actually freezes, all the users get a 'cannot connect to server message'.

I couldn't find any articles pertaining to this type of problem. Well here are my thoughts on this issue. When you say you must restart the Server in order to fix this problem it tells me that it is a resource issue. 2k Server is fairly good at giving the resources back but the RAM still fragments over time. I suggest monitoring the server performance when viewing database properties. This may tell you if there is an upgrade needed. SQL 7.0 had the same issue but microsoft 'supposedly fixed this problem' with SQL2k migration. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
