Hi,

A bit of advice, if possible...

Not having IIS (I have XP Home which I don't want to upgrade to PRO) I was considering creating a dev environment consisting of SQL*Server and ASP.NET through Cassini web server (ASP.NET only). I wondered if anyone had any views on this, along the lines of does it sound sensible, has anyone tried this or similar? I have very little knowledge of server technology and wanted to check it sounded reasonable before I splashed out £400 on SQL Server.

Thanks.

Hi there,

I could be wrong but if you want to develop on SQL Server shouldn't you install it on a server based platform? (ie win 2k server).

The Developer Edition can be installed on a Non-Server OS. It has almost all the capability of the Enterprise Edition so it would be an excellent choice in this case. I imagine that is the edition BadRabbit will purchase.

I've not used the setup up described but it appears to me that it should work. Anyone have any other views? Terry L. Broadbent - DBA

Yes, it would be Developer Edition as I would only require it for development, and implementation would be via a 3rd party hoster. Thanks for the replies, and if anyone else has any input I'd be glad to hear it.
