Hi everyone,

I know most people are going from SQL server to MS Access. However, for my particular need I need to convert an SQL Server database to MS Access. I, however, only need to import the tables with all the constraints.

Is there any script or some simple way to do this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Sincerely,
Pankaj

If you have SQL Server 7 or Greater you can use the DTS Import Export Utility that is built in. Just follow the prompts and select a blank access database and export the SQL DB you want to that Access database.

Easy as that. Just did it for the PUBS database in SQL and it took 30 seconds maximum.

Hope this helped

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. Does DTS always import the constraints correctly?? I usually loose the Identities and the primary keys.

Also, is it possible to use DTS through ASP.NET

Thanks,

Sincerely,
Pankaj

Hi Paladine,

I think your solution is the best. However, I have 2 questions that I was wondering if you could help me with:

- The first one is that I cannot seem to import the identities and Primary keys in the Access tables.

- Second, I would like to be able to run this DTS package through ASP.NET and basically have the access file that is generated available for download. Any ideas on how to do that?

Thanks a lot,

Pankaj

Ah, that one I will need to look into a little more. But I would definitely look through the KB articles at Microsoft for the hows and whys. As this is their baby.

I will let you know if I find anything, but at the moment I am unsure how to transfer the constraints/keys and access it through ASPNET.

Cool! I will do that tomorrow. If I find something, I will post it here.
