hi I have downloaded Sql server sp3 from

and installed the following in my server
sql2kasp3.exe
44617 KB

sql2kdesksp3.exe
70815 KB

sql2ksp3.exe

I ran sql2ksp3.exe and then when I wanted to check if I updtaed the service pack by running select @@version I got the following statement
Microsoft SQL Server 2000 - 8.00.760 (Intel X86)
Dec 17 2002 14:22:05
Copyright (c) 1988-2003 Microsoft Corporation
Standard Edition on Windows NT 5.0 (Build 2195: Service Pack 1)

I am still showing Service Pack 1 even after I ran the above executed files. I did backed up the master and msdb database, yet, I am still showing Service Pack 1.

by the way, I am using sql server developer edition. Anyway, I also ran the above executed files in sql server standard edition and I was successfully got sp3.
Any idea why the developer edition is not getting the sp3. Am I missing some important steps?
your advice and guidance is appreciated.
Thanks
Al

Re Microsoft SQL Server 2000 - 8.00.760 (Intel X86)

This is the version for sql2000 with sp3, the sp1 refers to windows NT5.0 service pack - I would also upgrade that.

I have window xp. What do you mean by upgrade that?

Probably should have a read of this ;

HOW TO: Identify Your SQL Server Service Pack Version and Edition

As far as I know;

Windows NT 5.0 = Windows 2000
Windows NT 5.1 = Windows XP

Keep in mind that @@version is displaying the operating system of the Server and not your client machine.

In other words, according to the results of @@version, you have SQL Server 2000 (Service Pack 3) running on Windows 2000 (Service Pack 1).

What SonOfEmidec1100 is saying is that Windows 2000 is currently up to Service Pack 4 so you need to update Windows on the server.

Hope that helps.

Nathan thanks for expanding on my response, I agree the @@version response (NT 5.0 Build 2195: Service Pack 1) indicates W2Ksp1 not XP.
