SQL server for Sharepoint

Hi, I have installed Sharepoint Portal server 2003 on MSDE(on another pc) but I'm had problems with this configuration with the personal site..I have read that I have a small server farm configuration and I have thought to install SQL server and uninstall MSDE...But now the portal site is disappeared!!If I try to search the site the browser writes: Service unavailable..
help!

Does that mean you already uninstalled MSDE or installed SQL over the top of it?

At the beginning I had a small server farm with a computer for Sharepoint and another for MSDE.
Then I have read a book about sharepoint that suggests to use SQL server for a server farm and so I have uninstalled MSDE and I have installed SQL server...and my problems arised!I have thought to repeat the complete installation(for Sharepoint and SQL)..What do you think?
