Afternoon folk ...

getting the message "sql server does not exist or access denied...) when i try to register a new server. i am able to ping the server. i am able to use terminal services to log onto the server and register my server. This server is on a diffrent domain than my server resides. any ideas?

Thanks in advance!
Thanks

Hi,

If you are using NT authentication then the problem is that there is not a two way trust between domains. If you use SQL authentication then there should not be a problem.

It's only with NT that you need that 2 way trust

Have you tried to use the ODBC connection to set up and test a connection to the database?
Another way around the problem might be to use the Client Network Utility to set up an alias to your other database and use that for the server. Also, you might have one database on TCP/IP while the other one is on Named Pipes, which in that case you will want to again use the Client Network Utility to configure for the proper protocol to use while accessing the database.

Hope this helps.

Good Luck!

Hey Folks ... Problem Solved

sorry, in my haste to solve the "HOT" issue, i did not fully describe the network set up. This was for a 2 node cluster. what we found, in viewing the logs was that there was an error initiating the port sql was listening on. found the registry entry where the incorrect IP was added. we changed the value to the correct IP and all is well. Thanks for all the great input and have a great week! Thanks
