I'm running Windows 2000 Advanced server and SQL SVR 2000, with the suitable Veritas software. I also installed the SQL server agent. SQL server is on the same server as the backup device and this computer is also the DC with active directory.

When I'm looking in veritas, the sql-server is in the backup tree and active (the box is white and not gray). When I click on the SQL server icon, I have to log in to attach to the device. I tried all usernames and passwords we use (administrator, etc.) but I can't connect.

Does anyone know how this is possible?

hi

i'm jus giving a suggestion. dunno whether it works.
do u hav similar problems when u clicked the filesystems (e.g. C:) and they prompt u for username/password?

try right-click the MS SQL Server and select "attach as".
use a user acccount that is a member of the local administrator group.

There are two options. The first is to upgrade to 8.5 as I'm not 100% sure 8.0 can be used with SQL2000.
The other is to try and stop the Backup Exec Services. Then go into Win Explorer, program files\veritas\backup exec\nt\data.
There is a file called Bewinui.uni. This is the password database. Rename this to .old and start the services again.
In Backup Exec, click on the SQL server and make sure it is highlighted. Then use the attach as function and try to log on to it.
If this still fails, go to support.veritas.com and search in the knowledge base for sql.

I have two servers, 1 server is running the VBE 8.6 and also MS SQL Server 7.0. The other one is running Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 with the replicated database from the first server. We have no problem in backing up the 1st server (as the tape drive is attached to it) but we have problems in backing up the remote SQL database even though we have installed SQL REmote Agent. The error message wa "Unable To Attach" but we can still backing up other Drive in the remote server. Please help me....

I have a Win2000 server and SQL 2000. I am trying to backup my databases with Veritas. When I created the backup job I expanded the MSSQL Server and was able to select all of my databases. It did not ask me for a password. I ran the job and I keep on getting file in use errors on all of the databases. In other words it doesn't backup them up at all. I have the backup scheduled to run at 12:00am when no one is on the system. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,
Jane
