Hi, I have a couple of C# apps that connect to the same SQL Server db (via sqlclient)... does anyone know how to change the name of the "application" that appears in the process info box of sql server. I need to be able to differentiate between the two apps and currenly they both say ".Net SqlClient DataProvider" or something to that effect.

My opinion is that there is no way to see the *.exe name in the Process tab because the *.exe calls .NET Sql* modules which are seen as processes (many instances) by SQL.

Found my answer... you just put in "Application Name='app name' in the connection string

Yes, that is true, I remember Workstation ID instead of Application Name! You have a star!

So is it possible to specify both Application Name and Workstation ID and have them both visible?

This type of thing would make life LOT easier for our DBA when trying to find a stuck process.

The future is already here - it's just not widely distributed yet...

Another Idea,
We use different logins for different Applications. Helps with Security and with finding hung items

We tend just to use NT Auth for applications thus is makes it hard to track down what session is for what application as a user can have permissions to many databases. Using the application name variable in the connection string makes this really easy.
