Is is possible to run an instance of SQL Server 6.5 on XP Professional? My other option is to partition the disk and install NT 4.0 with BackOffice 4.0. Thanks

No.

SQL 6. will only run on a server OS. XP Pro is not a server OS.

Actually, I was asking if it were possible. I know it's possible on NT Workstation and 2000 Pro: out of necessity, in order to kick off development while my client(s) were in the process of buying a server, I've run SQL Server 6.x on both of those environments.

I am in the same situation, where the server is in transition of being upgraded (hardware), and I need to do development in preparation for that migration. Would partitioning the hard drive on the XP Pro machine and installing NT Server 4.0 be the way to go, with a dual boot?

Ordinarily, DBAs do this; but as a developer, I have had to fill in while this economic downturn runs its course. I don't mind; it gives me a chance to learn...

Thanks again
