If I have selected the wrong forum, please bear with me.
I am new to Sql Server. I have XP Prof SP3.
I had downloaded VS Express 2008 VB, C++, C#, and VWD. I wanted to downloaded Sql Server express 2008 and one of the sites said you should be using Vs 2008 express SP1 and Sql server Express 2008 SP1. So I removed everything I had. Downloaded SP1. I have installed successfully
VB, C++, C# and VMD. Sql server also says successfully installed but I have no Management Studio. I have tried downloading it separately, but have been totally frustrated by M$oft site. Seems to be a circular loop, then points to Sql server 2005 express.

I seem to have everything installed, except for the management Studio. Is there a way to install that now?
I would also add that the Sql server Installation center (interface) is not very helpful. It doesn't indicate what to do etc. I have managed to get to Successful installation but its more trial and error than defined procedure.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I've installed SQL Server 2008 Express (using the one from the main download with Advanced options) just few days ago. Took me quite an amount of time, because I had to install all the first steps, also upgrade my VS2008 to VS2008SP1 first.

Thanks Markros for the quick response. I'm so frustrated with this thing I'm just starting to uninstall everything I have so far. I was advised to download the SQL server 2008 express with Tools and start again.

I installed SQL Server 2008 Express with Tools. I now have Management Studio. Interesting thing was that during the installation, it showed Advanced Options as the product being installed and would not let me select anything else. The product I downloaded and installed was SQLEXPRWT_x86_ENU.exe

Anyway, I have sqlserver 2008 express and Management Studio, now I have to find some good tutorials (preferably video).

Anyone have some favorites?

I understand database structures and have worked with Oracle and Access. I am totally new to SQLServer.
