sql server 2005 side by side install with 2000

Is it possible to install sql server 05 on the same machine as a 2000 instance without using named instances? It seems to work fine when I use a named instance, but otherwise it seems to assume that I just want to upgrade the 2K instance.

I have found the answer to my question. If a default instance exsists on the computer then sql server 05 is installed as a named instance.

You can only have one instance per name (including the default instance).
