Does anyone know if there is (or will be) a 64bit version of SQL server for IA64?

My problem is that we will migrate our old mainframe applications to Windows and they will only run in 32 bit, but I would like to be able to use a lot of ram for the database.

32bit SQL maxs out at 64 GB of memory. How much memory do you need?

64 GB is more then fine. I expect to start out with 16 GB.
But I would expect it to be faster under 64 bit so that I didn't have to use AWE for memory access.

With 64bit SQL I think you still need to use AWE. I'm not sure as we don't have a Windows 2003 64bit box in here yet.

Things should be faster with the 64bit chips. I haven't been able to do any side by side work as we don't have one yet (see above).

Not sure if this helps:

I just set up a Windows Server running Windows Server 2003 Standard SP1 x64 (non-Itanium) with SQL Server 2000 Standard SP4. I used the /x86/setup/ directories for installation and subsequent upgrade to SP4. 32-bit SQL is running under WOW64 just fine.
