I am having performance problems with SQL Desktop edition.

I have installed the desktop edition on two windows 2000 clients. One machine works fine the other one is very slow when doing queries - The machines are exactly the same spec.

All other applications including browsing the network behave normally on the machine.

Can anyone help to identify the problem?

It sounds like the two machines are using different data sources. (not sharing one sql database) If this is the case, you probably did not index the same fields in the slower machine's sql tables. Check to see if all tables have indexes on fields you search on. [sig]<p>John A. Gilman<br><a href=mailto:gms@uslink.net>gms@uslink.net</a><br>[/sig]

Thanks for the suggestion but both data sources are the same. [sig][/sig]

Could machine 1 be locking the records you are looking for when machine 2 does its query? [sig]<p>Cal<br><a href=mailto: > </a><br><a href= > </a><br> [/sig]

Basically we are displaying demo data on both machines and I am simply restoring the demo data on to both.

I think it is something like a network setting or user profile. As I have just discovered that under a different user profile I have good performance – but for others profiles performance is bad. Both users are administrators.

What could this be? – I am baffled.

Chris

PS Thanks for the help so far
