Hello,

I have a little syupid question but I need some advice.
I run SBS 2003 Standard edition which comes with SQL EXPRESS. I am getting close to the 4GB limit and so I purchased an update to the Premium edition which has SQL Server 2000.

What is the best way to move the database I use in EXPRESS to the new one? I know that I should back up the Database of course but I wonder if I can simply stop the SQL EXPRESS SERVER and then install SQL 2000 without having to uninstall EXPRESS.

Any advice?

You can install multiple instances of SQL 2000 without uninstalling, so I imagine its the exact same for MSDE or SQl Express.
The only difference is it becomes a named instance i.e. typically MACHINENAME\INSTANCENAME
I dont see any issues with this.

So does that basically mean I
- install SQL 2000
- back up data from SQL EXPRESS
- restore data to SQL 2000
- change application database settings to SQL 2000 instance

In a word - Yes
