I keep getting this error

An error occurred on a query to database master.
^ ^ ^ ^ ^
You can only perform a full backup of the master database. Use BACKUP DATABASE to back up the entire master database.
^ ^ ^ ^ ^
Unable to open the item master - skipped.

An error occurred on a query to filegroup model..PRIMARY.
^ ^ ^ ^ ^
Could not find filegroup 'PRIMARY' in sysfilegroups for database 'model'.
^ ^ ^ ^ ^
Unable to open the item model?PRIMARY - skipped.

The databases exist and I change the Recovery properties to FULL in the Enterprise Manager.

Any ideas??

What kind of backup are you trying to do with the master? Recovery (in EM) can only be set to SIMPLE for master and only a Full Backup can be done.

So I change the Recovery from Full to Simple on the master adn do a FULL backup on BE? Thats the way I had it orignally and it gave me errors too.

Are you using BE SQL Agent to do the backup? Did you install it with the licenses for SQL Agent?

-SQLBill

Yes I did... The install is only on the server side right (Backup Exec Server)? I should have mentioned that.

Under Remote Selection/Microsoft Windows Network/Domain/SQLSERVER/MS SQL Server.
I'm backing up 42 DBs with no problem. Except this one.
BTW It is doing a Diff backup during the weekday but a full on weekends. I got the same error with the full.

SQL 2K SP3 FYI

Thanks for your help

This is a known problem with BE, see Veritas' TechNote ID 246091. Changing the recovery method does not fix this as you have found out. According to the TechNote above, the solution is to not back up the model filegroup, only the data base.

Hmmm, I checked on another media server backing up a SQL DB and it seems the problem does not occur if you backup filegroups individually. If you select just select the MS SQL Server it will select all the databases but not the filegroups. But the databases are backed up. You can see on the right had window, all the way in the bottom, the databases that are bieng backed up.

Thanks for the help and insight to all.
