I am attempting to install SQL 2000 Developer's Edition on a server running Windows 2003 server.
I stopped the IIS as prescribed.
The install shield appears for a few seconds and disappears with no error message. I have been told that this is a known issue but have been unable to locate a fix.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks,
Don

Are you installing the SP3a version or a prior version?

Thanks

I am trying to install the SQL 2000 Server and then I will install SP3a. I do even get as far as seeing the welcome screen. The installer shield shows for only 2-3 seconds and quits without a message.
Thanks,
Don

Can't do it. You need to install SP3a first. I've seen lots of posts about this on other sites and some here. Installing SQL Server on WIN2003 REQUIRES SP3a already be installed. It's MS's answer to making sure the SLAMMER worm is stopped.

Thanks for trying to help. It seems strange that we would need to install SP3a for an app that has not been installed. (I do not have any previous version of SQL server installed.) Nevertheless, I did try to install using setup.bat but got only a screen flash and nothing more. The bat file does nothing except execute D:\x86\setup\setupsql.exe so I tried bypassing the bat file. The result was an error message: "Windows cannot open this program since it has been disabled". What in the world is going on? Apparently, it is VERY complicated to install SQL Server 2000. My server has virtually nothing on it other than Windows server 2003 (web edition). I believe that the SQL Server 2000 Developer's Edition is not compatible. So I will install Windows 2003 Server Enterprise edition and try again with the SQL Server 2000.
Thanks again.

You cannot install SQL Server on Server 2003 Web Edition, only MSDE. Were you able to install?

Celestil,

This thread is from 2003. I doubt they still have the problem.
