Spreadsheet in Mac opens as "Read Only"

I went form a PC to Mac and am having difficulty with a spreadsheet I created on my PC. It opens as "Read Only" and I cannot find who might have it open. This spreadsheet sits on our server and when I go to a PC to open it, I have no problem and when I look at the preferences it shows as having being the openly one open. I close it, go back to my Mac and it shows as "Read Only".

I must be missing something somewhere. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

After you open on your Mac, try to SAVE on your local drive, and then open that. What happens?

If I save it to my desktop I can open it just fine, no "Read Only". This spreadsheet sits on our server so several people can access it. when checking all those that can open it, only those with Mac's have a problem. I have other spreadsheets on the server that I have no problem with. This is confusing.
