I have created a document in photoshop using a pantone colour and black. How do I print the two separations, that is just the pantone colour and black (spot colour), not cmyk seps. in Quark Xpress.

In the Print dialog box, first go to the Document tab and check Separations. Then go to the Output tab. It should list all process and spot colors used in the document (that's the default, but if it's not, change the Plates drop down list to that setting).

If there's more colors in the list than what you're expecting, there may be more colors creeping into your document from somewhere. You can click on the tick beside any color to turn it on or off.

Thanks guys but the trouble is the pantone colour (that I created in Photoshop) is not showing up in my colours palette in Quark. When importing an Illustrator file into Quark the Pantone colour does show up in the colours palette.

Maybe a photoshop file problem or something similar?

That implies it is a Process colour and not a Spot colour.

If it IS definitely a SPOT colour (not just specified as a Pantone) then you can add the EXACT name to the colour pallete in Quark (as a Spot colour) and see if it prints then.

In Photoshop's color picker, there is an option to choose custom Pantone colors. However, it's only a convenience; they actually take on the color mode of the document. Unless you are using Duotones or specific Spot Channels, then it's not a spot color.
