Hi, I am having diffulty accessing my PBX using US Robotics External Sportster 33.6 Fax Modem. It had been working in the last year. But yesterday, one of the outside tech change the switch setting and Now I can not access it. I Can connect but I just have a blank Screen.
My current situation: Using Hyper Terminal 9600,N,8,1 & US Robotics External Sportster 33.6 Fax Modem (Setting: 1,4 Down; 2,3,5,6,7,8 Up).

I read in this forum for some people that have similar problem. But I have question, Especially for PERRYPJ. He wrote:
This is the setup for the US Robotics External Sportster 33.6 Fax Modem:
1. Power down the Modem
2. Set Dip Switch 1,3,5,8 Down; Set Dip Switch 2,4,6,7 Up>
3. Power up the Modem and program it as follows (set your terminal for 9600,N,8,1): AT&F&AT&B1&W&W1
4. Power down the Modem and set Dip Switches 1,4 Down; 2,3,5,6,7,8 Up
5. Power Up

MY QUESTIONS:
1. Where can i set up AT&F&AT&B1&W&W1 (or what is this for)?
2. which one is the switch setting? no 2 or no 4 of above? I confuse because you said set dip switch 1,3,5,8 Down... and then at No 4 you said Power down the Modem and set Dip Switches 1,4 Down; 2,3,5,6,7,8 Up.
3. Do I need to set like number 2 and then connect my hyper terminal to this modem and then power off the modem and set like number 4 ?

PLEASE HELP ME?
Thanks much

THE MODEM STRING IS INPUT FROM THE TERMINAL, IF YOU TYPE AT RETURN THE MODEM WILL COME BACK AND SAY OK. THESE ARE SMART MODEMS

OLD ROLMEN WORKING ON NORTELS

connect your moden direct to a com port, type or paste the string in with your term set at 8 none one and 96. that sets the command string, some pc's have a habit of doing a modem init string on reboot, but haven't had that problem lately. a complete set of commands are easy to find, google for atdt+command+set
