I'm trying to install an HP4300 printer on my print server and having a real hard time with it. I'm trying to install it to a TCP/IP port on my server, which I can ping the printer from the server, so the jet direct card seems to be working properly, however, when I click "Finish" at the end of the install wizard it hangs up and spoolsv.exe chews up 100% of CPU resources. I then have to kill the service and restart the print spooler. I'm running Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition, SP2. I've also downloaded fresh drivers from HP's website for PCL 5, PCL 6, and PS, none of which help.

Any ideas?

Try install the printer on a fictive LPT port.
When installed, enter the settings of the printer (ports) and move it to the designated TCP/IP port.

I actually resolved this problem by using a Windows XP driver instead of a Server 2003 driver from HP's website. I have no idea why that one worked but it did.
