We have a site running a Compaq Proliant 1200 server with Windows NT 4, running Service Pack 5,which is having problems with the spoolss.exe with the memory increasing all the time and stopping and starting the spooler service clears it down temporarily, but then it starts increasing again.

Any ideas would be excellent.
Hi,

try spoolss.exe and spoolss.dll to your %SystemRoot%\System32 folder. this can be done by typing the following command
expand spoolss.ex_ %SystemRoot%\System32\soolss.exe
expand spoolss.dl_ %SystemRoot%\System32\soolss.dll after coping spoolss.ex_ and spoolss.dl_ from the cd. hope the file may be corupted.

If the problem still persists then try to apply the latest service pack. this performance problem can even occure due to memory leak.

if the problem still persist pls guide me with the event id.. this will help us to isolate the problem.

Note: Always make a practice to mention the event id.

Rgds
Sunil Varma
R.SUNIL@HLCL.COM

PS: if you find some other solution pls post the same in this form.

HI,

The best solution for spoolss.exe is to upgrade the NT Service Pack.

Regards,
Rajalakshmi
dassraji@hotmail.com

Hi .. we'e upgraded the Service Pack and we were also told that after upgrading a Microsoft Service Pack, it's a good idea to upgrade the Compaq service pack which we've done and it seems to have helped the problem. They don't have to release the memory from the spooler each day .. just every so often, which I thought would be good practice anyway.

Bobb
