I am running a Citrix over NT terminal server. Every so often the citrix server slows down. I have found that when this happens the spoolss.exe is consuming 90-95% of the processor and does not let go of the processor!

This is obviously a problem!

Is there a hotfix for this or anything I can do besides stopping and restarting the spooler service (which fixes it everytime) ????

Thanks for any responses,
Jeff

Do you mean that you removed the drivers from the client or at the server? We are using Citrix XP and Win2K and having the same problem. I have setup the server to use the "Citrix PCL4 Universal Driver" in place of all HP drivers. But we still have the server going to 100% utilization every few days, and have to reboot.

Thanks,

John Wilson

There's a disturbing trend these days of printer drivers requiring an install program to be run. Sometimes INF files aren't even provided, and if they are, they're a placeholder that give an error along the lines of "Failed to install printer please_run_setup_program." This is most common with all-in-one type printers designed for the home user, but then, that's often where Citrix clients are coming from.
