Splitting/renaming a domain

My company is in the process of splitting off from an affiliate. Currently, both companies share a domain (the other company has the PDC, we have the BDC).

Once we split, we would like to delete the user/group accounts from the other company, promote the BDC to the PDC and rename the domain.

Does anyone have experience or recommendations on the best way to do this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure what other server or resources you have or number of employees but it might be easier to reinstall and setup all of your users again off of a fresh install
