I agree: the spelling is important, but… have you consider that the above statement is perfectly correct?
Maybe the author did mean a ‘colon’ even though you may assume she (he?) meant ‘cologne’? [ponder]

Yes, Spelling is essential for good communication. So, according to me, it plays a vital role.
