I installed office 97 on my computer and all the programs were run up and tested, excel's spelling checker works as the Administrator, but as my user it does not.

Upon pressing F7 an error message is displayed "Cannot Initialize the spell checker", I have searched on microsofts tech base and a document was displayed with information regarding registry modifications and 2 files that are kept in C:\program files\common files\microsoft shared\proof (MSSP2_EN.DLL and MSSP232.DLL) the document from Microsoft (Q305492) did not help me whatsoever.

I must admit the file MSSP2_EN.DLL is not on the office 97 cd or on the hard disk, I cannot find this online anywhere either.

I have also tried the modifications in the registry, they are also missing keys pertaining to the dictionary in the registry, I've also tried giving my account administrative privledges which does not work either.

Any info would be appreciated,

Thanks,

Brendan

OK, got the fix for this.

Some points to consider:

* Check the registry settings of another computer, mine was missing 3 that played an essential part of this working, microsoft does not tell you to import it / export it to another machine.

* Check that both the files are located in the proof tools folder.

* Make sure the folder and users who access this program have the correct permissions.

Hope this helps someone else who falls into the same trap I did.

Thanks!,

Brendan
